Helen is the one we, TA hiker talk to. She was in Japan for a couple of years and her father lives in Japan for 17 years!
Self contained with 6 bunk beds, nice cozy place.
Our plan was leaving at 9 o’clock but we stayed until 11 and half. It was a slow start and the sun was high above.
“Shooting legs today!” Said Nobu. This is some of field we walk on most of the trail.
Walking along the river for a while then we got lost. There was a sign pole on the other side of a swamp which you never wanna cross. We follow the traces of hikers back and forth. In the end we found another sign pole we could follow. Well that’s pretty common on trails here.
Fording river is now everyday stuff. Safety is always first. Getting wet is unavoidable. This one looked small and shallow but current was strong and deeper than we thought.
This Tui Track through riverside is not having tall trees mean no shade. But the end of track goes high up and there was a nice view but different scenery opens up.

Robin the bird often shows up and come near us. We love this friendly birds.

Hope Halfway Hut is 6 bunk beds and more like a shelter. But the mattress we’re all new ones. Only us staying tonight but some visitors at night, Possums! There were three of them we could spot.
Stars were beautiful at moonless night but I was scared of animals and darkness. I couldn’t imagine camping alone in woods.
